While camp at Oregon Humane Society will look different this year, dozens of virtual activities have been designed to engage young people with interactive sessions and creative projects.

This year, Summer Camp will be packed with exciting new opportunities. Campers will be able to get an up-close look at what work at OHS is like through virtual tours of the shelter, hospital, dog walking path, and an inside look at shelter operations. Sessions also include interactive discussions with OHS trainers on animal behavior and training, including chickens. Campers will be led by OHS staff and be able to work on crafts, make home-made treats and create other items for their pets. There will be special guests, including Guide Dogs for the Blind, Mt. Peak Therapy Llamas, OHSTAR (OHS Technical Animal Rescue Team), police dogs, local authors like Kelsey Kagan, author of Osa, a Curiously Different Dog (pictured above), and many more.

“The stress of the past year has taken a huge toll on young people, and it’s more important than ever that we support them any way we can,” says Jennifer Barta, OHS Associate Director of Volunteer Services and Humane Education. “We planned this year’s camp to be a special experience where young people can celebrate their love for animals while learning all about Oregon Humane Society’s work.
