Aries (March 21 – April 19)

As the leader of the zodiac, Aries likes to be the first to try new things and take a risk. From hiking to fishing to playing sports and beyond—Aries tend to lead a very active lifestyle. So, it makes sense their ideal furry friend will have just as much energy and exuberance as this fiery sign does. The best pet for an Aries will enjoy plenty of playtimes, love exploring the great outdoors, and also has a bit of an independent streak.

German Shorthair Pointer. At medium size, they are known for their versatility, endurance and love of the outdoors. Any activity that blends time outside and time with their human family is the perfect combination for them. They are very intelligent and take pride in accomplishing tasks on their own.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Taurus works really hard at everything they put their minds to–so as a result, they love to kick up their feet and relax when the day winds down. Some people call them lazy as a result, but the truth is they’re just a bit of a couch potato. Between working hard to excel in their career to acting as the rock-solid foundation of their friend group, they’ve earned a break! So, their ideal pet will share the same relaxed and easygoing attitude. Whether they adopt a cat or a dog, the only requirements they have are plenty of snuggles, lots of kisses, and a chill attitude.

Pekingese. This compact pup, who was originally bred to live in palaces, enjoys the finer comforts of life. They like to take things at an easy pace and are content to snuggle all day next to their human companion—on only the most comfortable of pillows and sofas of course.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

People like to say Gemini is hard to understand, but the truth is they’re just the kind of people who can do it all. They don’t like to fit themselves into a box and actively push themselves to learn new things and step outside their comfort zone. Gemini are some of the smartest people they’ll meet and love learning new things. So, they’ll want a furry friend that can pick up tricks and commands quickly, and maybe even enjoy learning more advanced agility skills. And because Gemini is the sign of friendship and socializing, their furry friend will need to be just as extroverted and charming as they are.

Golden Retriever. This breed is known for its outgoing nature, wanting to befriend almost anyone and everyone. But Golden Retrievers are loyal first and foremost to their human. They’re eager to please and love to learn—so bring on the mental enrichment, fun games and let’s play!

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Sweet and sentimental, Cancer is the type of person who loves to make connections for life. They like to keep their inner circle tight and value loyalty over anything else. And as the sign known for its nurturing instincts, Cancer always goes above and beyond to show their affection for others. They put their heart into everything they do and often need a lot of alone time to recharge after a long day. So, their ideal furry friend will be very affectionate, deeply loyal, and a bit of a snuggle bug. They are looking for a friend who will be their daily walk buddy and always be down to curl up and watch Netflix during a cozy night in.

Coton de Tulear. This fun-loving, often clowinsh breed loves to make their human smile. So, if that means being cute and silly or cuddling up on the sofa, they’re up to the task. This breed can read the audience well and, speaking of audiences, they love people and can light up the room.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Passionate and bold in everything they do, Leos aren’t afraid to put themselves out there or look foolish. In fact, this fire sign has so much energy that it can be hard for them to focus on just one thing at a time. They like to live every day as if they are the main character–often stealing the spotlight and drawing attention wherever they go. From the moment they wake up to when they finally decide to call it a night, Leo like to follow their heart and live their life out loud. Their ideal pet will have a one–of–a–kind personality and friendly demeanor. They’ll also love going to the park to meet friends and won’t be opposed to traveling to new places. Only the most extroverted breeds will suit this zodiac sign!

French Bulldog. A big personality is power packed into this breed’s stout, little body. Their signature “bat ears” and light-hearted attitude bring smiles and laughter to any room they bound into. This pup is a connector of all people of all ages from all places through a big heart and loving personality.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Grounded and practical, Virgos like to shoot straight into life. They are expert communicators who know how to thoughtfully get their point across in any situation. In their daily life, they have a tendency to find and stick to a routine in life, streamlining the little things so they can focus on the task at hand. While some people thrive in chaos, Virgos prefer predictability and order. So, the best pet for them will be quick to learn, thrive in a structured environment, and have cool confidence about them. In fact, any breed that thrives under dependable leadership and guidance will do well with a Virgo.

Standard Poodle. While some people may have the perception that Standard Poodles are “diva dogs”, they are actually very athletic across most canine sports. They are quick to learn and please, and they thrive on routine and structure.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

People born under the sign of Libra love to make a splash. Never satisfied with the status quo, they’ll always be looking for a way to spice up their life. These folks always find themselves chatting with strangers and making new friends anywhere they go. Always open to trying something new, it’s rare to find these folks out of balance. The breed that works best with their demeanor will be a relaxed, friendly, and intelligent dog with a bit of an independent streak. They’ll need a breed that has an extroverted side and loves companionship but also knows how to enjoy time alone.

Pug. This breed lives for the affection of others. After a long day of being out and about, meeting and greeting, they’re happy to curl up on the sofa with a snack—just be sure to keep the munchies to a minimum as they have a tendency to overindulge when given the opportunity.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Reserved and mysterious, it’s tough to get a read on this zodiac sign. Scorpios pride themselves on their restraint, which can read as aloofness on the surface. However, under the surface of their too-cool attitude is an emotional and sensitive soul who needs a lot of reassurance and love in order to feel safe. It can take some time to earn their trust–but once you do their loyalty is unmatched. That said, Scorpios make a perfect match for breeds that take a bit of work to coax out their friendly side. They won’t mind putting in the time or effort to earn the trust of rescue and will happily provide the safe space these breeds need in order to thrive.

An Adult Rescue Dog. Having likely endured a bit of instability and maybe even cruelty, the adult rescue dog may require a consistent routine and gradual construction of a foundation of trust for people. That said, once that foundation is there, these dogs are solid as ever with a heart of gold at the center.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Adventurous and thrill-seeking, Sagittarius is always on the move chasing down whatever catches their interest. They don’t like being tied down to one place and enjoy the freedom that comes with being able to go wherever their heart wants to take them. The Archer is known for hitting their mark whenever they set their sights on something–which is why they’re so brave and optimistic in life. They’ll do best with a breed that shares their wanderlust, love of exploring, and making new friends. It’s also important for this globetrotter to have a furry friend that loves long car rides, adventure, and walks on the beach.

Labrador Retriever. This is America’s most popular breed for so many good reasons. They are loyal, affectionate and energetic. To ensure they’re mentally and physically fit, they like to be involved in all the adventures with family and friends.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

People born under the sign of Capricorn are disciplined and hardworking people with a natural leadership streak in them. Reaching their goals and accomplishing their dreams are very important to them, and they’ll do just about anything to see them become a reality. This gives them a reputation for being someone that other people can rely on to do what they say they will, and always follow through. The ideal pet for you will likely be the leader of the pack and be very motivated to do things daily. Whether it’s a daily fetch session, training, or walks—Capricorns need an active breed that loves working toward a goal.

Newfoundland. Known as the “nanny breed,” the Newfies can be relied upon to take care of the task at hand—whether that be pulling a cart or overseeing children at play. They are a calm, quiet leader who needs regular exercise that engages their physical and mental energies.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

Aquarius’ are the rebellious ones of the zodiac, always looking to assert their unique perspective on life. Cool and confident, nobody can peer pressure this sign. Rather than go with popular opinion or agree with what other people think–Aquarius will go out of their way to experience it themselves and form their own thoughts. So, they don’t pay much mind to the propaganda around certain pet breeds being “difficult” or “undesirable” – and in fact, tend to gravitate toward the underdog. And because this air sign is so flexible in their lifestyle, they will happily accommodate any breed and their needs–so long as their personalities gel.

Rescue Kitten or Younger Cat. Not quite set in their ways but definitely already have an opinion and perspective on likes and dislikes, a young cat or kitten from a rescue or foster group would be a ‘purrfect’ match. They’ll come with some street smarts, but they are also willing to comply (just a little) to the right person’s requests.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

People born under the sign of Pisces are some of the most intuitive and creative people in the world. They know how to tap into the feelings of themselves and those around them more easily than any other sign, which makes them among the most understanding and empathetic friends you can have. Whether you’re going through a break–up or celebrating a major milestone, Pisces knows how to make you feel special and cared for. Of course, this leads to a need to retreat from the world every now and again–Pisces need a lot of space to refresh and unwind after absorbing all the emotions of people around them. So, their ideal pet will be a low-maintenance snuggler who likes to take afternoon naps and daydream the afternoons away.

A Senior Rescue Dog. These companions usually come with manners and obedience skills, but without an exuberance of energy. Senior rescue dogs are ideal snuggle buddies who are always appreciative of the humans who give them a comfy place to spend their golden years.
